If your home has the Kidde Model i12060A it no longer in production.
The recommended hardwired Kidde smoke alarm is model 20SAR, it uses AA battery
back-up (instead of 9-volt).
Or, model 20SA10, it has a 10-year sealed battery back-up.

The mounting bracket and wiring harness will need to be replaced
with the one that comes in the box with the new alarm.
Or for "plug and play" you can purchase wiring adapter model 20-9003.

Turn off the power to the smoke detectors when replacing and replace all of them
at the same time before restoring power. There should be a labeled circuit breaker
in your electrical panel for the smoke detectors.

If you are replacing ionization smoke detectors be aware that
they contain a trace amount of radioactive material (usually Americium-241).
Hillsborough County does not permit these types of smoke detectors to be discarded
in the trash and the County will not accept them at the hazardous waste centers.
The State is of no help - the only legal option (at least for Kidde brand) is to mail
them back to the manufacturer for disposal. Contact Kidde through their website.
